Our home community
State Road is an unincorporated community in western Surry County. It runs along US 21 north of Elkin, where US 21 leaves I-77. From here the road heads up toward Roaring Gap, the Blue Ridge Parkway and Sparta. The name is said to come from a state road camp set up here while a highway was being built.
Because State Road has no town government, any permit or approval question goes to Surry County instead of a town hall. We’ll tell you when a job might need one, like taking down an outbuilding.
